for a heart healthy soup. .. . ken cuccinelli is running for governor of v. tuesday and is taking heavy fire. we're back with a panel. the governor's race is a big and there are several on the docket on tuesday. let's look at the latest numbers in virginia. real clear show democrat terry mcauliffe beating cuccinelli by 7.5 points. cuccinelli trails women voters by 13 points in one poll and by 24 in another. senator brown, for all the talk in the g.o.p. about learning lessons from november 2012 when it comes to single women, when it comes to hispanics, are you guys making the same mistakes again? >> i thought that ad was against me. i thought that was my ad that they were running against me. it's the blueprint they use on republicans. it's something obviously we have to try to deal within a more effective way. i look at obviously cuccinelli's race and governor christie's race. we have a purple and blue state. it looks like governor christie, the more moderate of the two who's approached things in a bipartisan problem solving manner appears he's going to win in high double digits. you have mr.
a conservative republican cuccinelli. speaker gingrich, from what we can tell, cuccinelli, the republican, has always been behind. we think it will be a blowout victory for chris christie. let's start with virginia. is it an indictment of the republican party? how are we to read cuccinelli's -- if cuccinelli loses? >> it's not an indictment of the republican party. we'll have christie win by 20 points plus. >> is it an indictment on part of the republican party? >> this is a question about the campaign that was run in virginia and i think that if you don't run an aggressive campaign very early, you don't define yourself very early, you let your opponent define you and if you have mcauliffe's ability to raise money. this is the clinton machine brought it bear. and i think they are out advertising this week, something like 25-1. >> they played the female card on the democratic side much like they did with obama's victory in virginia. >> terry has run a race on progressive issues. he's gone up against nra and been out for medicaid expansion. he's actually campaigning a little bit on the affordabl
candidate. nominate the right candidates. >> ken cuccinelli may be able to -- i don't know, anna, did you see that? >> yeah. i've seen polls all over the place. i'm sure that the government shutdown issue hurt cuccinelli. i'm also sure what's happening with obama care is at some point hurting mcauliffe as well. so yes, i have seen polls as tight as seven points, five points. and others that have it as broad as 12 points and so, we're yet to see, look, you never know until election day and until you figure out what voters came out. if the democrat voters get overconfident, it could be very bad for them. >> go ahead, lz. >> i was going to say, it is important to note that virginia is a very special case. there is a very volatile civil war happening within the gop in that particular state. ken cuccinelli kind of did some shady stuff. they didn't didn't have a primary there, they add convention. the tea party and conservative christians took the tea party instead of a natural democratic process. what you mentioned before, anna, they are purple. in the primary process, it doesn't matter which
ken cuccinelli joins me here next. we're coming right back. >>> a week until the virginia gubernatorial election, president bill clinton on the campaign trail or democratic candidate terry mcauliffe, my next guest, joined by senator rand paul. joining us is the republican candidate, virginia attorney general and republican gubernatorial candidate ken cuccinelli. great to have you with us. i mean, there's a lot of firepower there in virginia. this ought to be kind of a simple deal. you against terry mcauliffe, what's going on? >> well, a lot's going on here with eight days to go, lou. so today we traveled the state with senator rand paul from lynchburg to virginia beach to fairfax county. so we covered the three corners of the state, more or less. and reached hundreds of people with rallies and really turned them back out onto the streets, literally, to contact other voters and to really fire up our volunteers so we can be reaching people one on one. these are low turnout races in these odd years. and it's critically important that people be talking to voters one at a time
